Fantastic view of the sea and the islands

From the Skywalk platform, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Makarska Riviera, the Pelješac peninsula and some of the Croatian islands such as Brač, Hvar and Korčula. The Skywalk is located in the southeastern part of the Biokovo mountain range at an altitude of 1228 m above sea level.

On windy, sunny days you can also see Italy, and if you walk across the transparent glass outside the cliff edge you can experience the Biokovo rocks from a bird’s eye view.

How a skywalk works

Before entering the Skywalk, visitors are asked to clean their shoes to keep the glass floor as clear as possible and preserve the fascinating effect.

With access stairs from both sides, it allows a circular walkway that maintains a continuous flow of visitors. The horseshoe-shaped walkway, constructed from steel and glass, can accommodate around 30 visitors at a time.

In addition to the supporting steel structure, the railing is also made of pure glass, from where you can admire the heavenly panorama of the Croatian Adriatic and the bright blue sky – a true skywalk experience!

Wrapped in the illusion of walking through the clouds, visitors can enjoy the incomparable view of the Makarska Riviera on sunny days and capture the perfect souvenir photo

Skywalk Biokovo Hiking - A Paradise for Adventure

If you exclude the option of driving, Biokovo opens up exciting prospects for mountaineers and cyclists. Several hiking trails lead to the Skywalk, starting in Tučepi, Makarska and Podgora. For those who want to get active, the paved Biokovo road presents a real challenge, and some adventurers tackle the route from the park entrance on bicycles. For mountain bike enthusiasts, there is the newly opened 8 km long gravel route that starts in the village of Saranač and joins the Biokovo road at the “Vrata biokova” restaurant. However, it is strongly recommended to bring enough water, especially in the summer months when temperatures can exceed 30 °C.

The Skywalk Biokovo promises a unique experience for nature lovers and will undoubtedly be remembered as the “highlight” of your vacation on the Adriatic. Interesting facts about the breathtaking Biokovo Mountains

Biokovo is one of the largest, highest and most picturesque mountains in Croatia, stretching majestically above the Makarska Riviera and protecting this region with pride. From its heights it offers an unforgettable view of the Adriatic Sea. The highest peak, Sveti Jure, rises an impressive 1762 meters above sea level, making it the second highest mountain peak in the Republic of Croatia.

The geology of Biokovo is not only fascinating within the context of the nature park, but also extremely diverse and complex. About 65 million years ago, the African plate collided with the Eurasian plate, causing major tectonic disturbances. This narrowing of the sea area caused the formation of folds in the horizontal rock layers. These folds broke open, rose above the sea surface and formed imposing mountain ranges such as the Alps and the Dinarides, to which Biokovo belongs.

Next to the stunning Skywalk observation deck is an impressive geological column in the shape of a rock cross-section. This column provides a fascinating three-dimensional representation of all the different rock layers in the park and documents their changes from the beginning to the present day. It is a journey through geological history that explains the impressive formation of this imposing mountain range.

Skywalk Biokovo - Project Adrion

Not just an ordinary viewpoint, the Skywalk Biokovo is also an integral part of the “New Adrion” project, which aims to promote sustainable use in the Biokovo Nature Park. In addition to the Skywalk, the project also includes a planned visitor center in the municipality of Zagvozd, which is scheduled to open in 2021. This initiative underlines the commitment to protecting nature and promoting sustainable tourism in the region.

The project consists of 12 project elements that will increase the educational capacity of visitors to Biokovo Nature Park through the development of new educational programs and content, increase the attractiveness of the park’s natural heritage and increase visitor numbers through investments in infrastructure and content. An impressive and complex part of this EU project was the construction of a horseshoe-shaped viewpoint outside the cliff with a glass surface for walking called Skywalk Biokovo.
